A researcher who examined 10,000 Hotmail, MSN and Live.com passwords that were recently exposed online has published an analysis of the list and found that “123456? was the most commonly used password, appearing 64 times.

Forty-two percent of the passwords used lowercase letters from “a to z”; only 6 percent mixed alpha-numeric and other characters.

Many of the top 20 passwords used were Spanish names, such as Alejandra and Alberto, suggesting that the victims were in Spanish-speaking communities. Nearly 2,000 of the passwords were only six characters long. The longest password was 30 characters — lafaroleratropezoooooooooooooo.

The recent hack of the website RockYouexposed around 32 million user passwords, which data security firm Imperva has analyzed to create a list of the worst passwords.

Want to know what terms to avoid?

Here are the top ten most commonly used passwords:

1. 123456

2. 12345

3. 123456789

4. Password

5. iloveyou

6. princess

7. rockyou

8. 1234567

9. 12345678

10. abc123

The 10,000 passwords and user names, believed to be booty from a phishing attack, were posted over the weekend to the clipboard site PasteBin. The site owner has since removed the list, but Bogdan Calin of Acunetix grabbed the passwords before it disappeared.

The list included only online account addresses that began with “A” or “B,” suggesting that the list was only part of a larger cache of credentials. On Tuesday, the BBC reported that it had viewed a second list of more than 20,000 account credentials that included Gmail, Yahoo and AOL accounts, and that Google had uncovered a third list containing an unknown number of accounts.

Some of the accounts on the list of 20,000 names the BBC saw appeared to be old, unused or fake, though many were genuine. The list also included Comcast and Earthlink accounts.

Both Google and Microsoft, which own Gmail and Hotmail, MSN and Live.com respectively, have taken measures to block use of the exposed accounts until the legitimate users can reset their passwords.

If you live in a place that is cold and dry right now, do yourself a favor and pick up a humidifier. This particular model from Japan definitely has an elegant “ancient tech” kind of charm.Designed with a Yacht sail in mind; The Mast Humidifier is carved from Japanese Cypress and absorbs water from the hull. It then disperses the moisture throughout the room. You even get a fresh, subtle lemon scent due to the type of wood. The wood is rot resistant and obviously electricity free.

The large four-door Frigidaire refrigerator has a French Door layout and offers a 620 liter gross capacity with 464 liters in fridge and 156 liters in freezer sections. This 90cm wide fridge freezer is available in two models and features dual cooling system with different designs. The fridge compartment utilizes a passive cooling technology with cold air pumped from behind the rear aluminum condensation plate, ensuring high humidity and preventing food dehydration, uneven cooling and other unwanted cooling issues.

The freezer compartment of this Frigidaire refrigerator employs an active cooling technology with multi flow, cold air blasting for a very cold, dry environment to quickly freeze and safely preserve food products for extended period of time. Four-door design allows you to easily find exactly what you are looking for, and helps maintain set temperatures minimizing exposure of the refrigerator interior to the outside air with its smaller doors.

Frigidaire equipped this refrigerator with many amenities making sure that you can store various types and sizes of your favorite foods. The fridge section offers a full width shelf letting you comfortably store large plates, 2 drawers for vegetables and fruits, chilled meat drawer with a special adjustable vent for extra cold air circulation to keep meat fresh, snack drawer, 3 spill-safe tempered glass shelves and 6 various door storage compartments where you can store everything from eggs, to butter, to different size bottles.

Designed for use in showers, bathtubs, spas, kitchens and other indoor wet environments, the 19” LCD Hydra™ waterproof television brings technology to the most unexpected settings.

Hydra™ is much more than a television. It is a personality. For the first time, you can get a television that matches an imported marble shower, a colorful backsplash, or even a favorite shirt. Choose from hundreds of colors to make a statement completely unique. This option is in addition to Hydra™’s standard colors: white pearl and black onyx.

Key Features

SÉURA’s Hydra™ is the first and only of its kind. SEURA is known for combining high design with advanced home technology and Hydra delivers. The experts at SEURA have studied design trends and have found that consumers want more than function: they want superior design. For Hydra, that means color, performance and safety. Consumers have never before had the option to choose from a myriad of colors. Hydra is award-worthy for its sleek design, color options and premier performance in a wet environment, safely.

In addition to color, Hydra’s flush profile is appealing for unconventional environments. Displays are becoming more and more popular for kitchens and bathrooms, but nothing on the market matches the design and sleek appeal of the Hydra. Forget complicated mounting systems. Once installed, the recessed Hydra becomes an elegant addition to any room’s décor.

Integrator Info

Consumers are spending more time in the home than ever before. As a result, displays are in demand for every room of the home – including the wet environments like the kitchen and bathroom. For the first time ever, the Hydra™ provides a design-friendly solution.

While there are many types of complicated mounting brackets and slim profile televisions on the market, none provide a flush solution like the Hydra. With cords and mounting fixtures completely hidden, this television is all form and function with zero aesthetic distractions. Out of the box, the unit is 3” in depth, designed to recess into an opening in the wall. Once installed, the Hydra television surface lies directly on the wall for a sleek presence.

In addition, the glass face of the Hydra is available in an unprecedented multitude of color options. Custom mixed and pristinely screen-printed to match any specified color, Hydra’s glass is designed to match any customer request – ensuring a completely customized, luxury design solution.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was quietly released into the App Store this evening. Chinatown Wars for the iPhone seems to lie somewhere in between the DS and PSP versions in regards to graphical quality, but as far as pure GTAgameplay, everything so far seems intact.

Much like other versions of the game, screenshots barely do it justice. Liberty City in motion on the iPhone is amazing, and all the jagged edges in the screenshots quickly fade away when you’re racing down a street, under elevated train tracks, and through alleys as you escape the police. The realtime clock in-game also changes the lighting of the city, shifting from the orange glow of a sunset to the street lights turning on at night. It really looks awesome.

The basic premise of the game involves a man named Huang Lee, the son of a Triad gang boss who was recently sent to sleep with the fishes. He flies in to Liberty City with a heirloom sword his father won in a poker game, deciding to deliver it to his uncle. Of course things never go as planned, and not long after landing Huang finds himself in the middle of a gunfight and winds up getting kidnapped. After stealing the sword, the assailants assume Huang is dead, and looking to dispose of the body drive the car he’s in off the side of a pier. In the same vein of other GTA games, story isn’t really anything revolutionary, but it gets the job done.

Chinatown Wars is controlled very similar to Gameloft’s Gangstar, with virtual buttons and a joystick that handle all the driving, running, shooting, and other activities in game. The iPhone port of Chinatown Wars retains the stylus minigames that filled the DS version, appearing in a little popups where you do things like tap to smash the window of the car you were trapped in at the beginning of the game, slide your finger around to turn a screwdriver to start a car you’re stealing, etc.

You might be looking for a way to try out Ubuntu Linux but don’t like the idea of creating a partition, using a slow live CD, or don’t have enough resources to run a virtual machine. Today we take a look at using the Wubi installer to get Ubuntu running on your computer with very little effort.

Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer that allows Windows users to easily get started in the Linux realm. Using Wubi to install Ubuntu is a similar process you’d use to install any other software program in Windows. It saves you the hassle of creating another partition or creating a VM. Wubi has been around for a few years now, and official version have been included on the Ubuntu Live CD since 8.04 “Hardy Heron”. We’ll take a look at installing Wubi from the Ubuntu Live CD and also downloading Wubi.exe separately and installing Ubuntu.

Installing Ubuntu with Wubi from Ubuntu CD

In this first method we’ve already downloaded the Ubuntu Live ISO and burned it to CD. In Windows pop in the Ubuntu 9.10 installation disc and run wubi.exe.

At the Ubuntu Menu screen click the Install inside Windows button.

At the Ubuntu Installer screen you choose the language, install drive, installation size, username and password then when you’re finished click Install.

Give it a few moments while the installation kicks off…

When it’s complete, a restart is required but you can do it right away or wait until later.

Installing Ubuntu from Wubi.exe

If you don’t already have the Ubuntu CD, another option is to download the Wubi Installer and kick off the install process. This simplifies the process even more because you don’t need to download the ISO and burn it to disc. One thing to point out with this method is you’ll get extra choices for the type of Desktop Environment you wish to install. In this example we’re choosing the Kubuntu environment.

Now when the installation takes place, it will download the appropriate ISO for the chosen desktop environment. Kubuntu uses the KDE environment which is different from the Gnome used in Ubuntu. The main difference is that KDE is more flashy with graphics and might be easier for a Windows user to get comfortable with.

No matter which route you take to install Ubuntu with Wubi, everything is installed to C:\Ubuntu directory.

Booting Into Ubuntu

After the first reboot, you can choose between Windows 7 or Ubuntu at the Windows Boot Manager screen.

The first time you boot into Ubuntu, wait a few minutes while the installation finishes up. You’ll see a series of screens and then the main install screen is displayed showing progress and screens showing features offered in Ubuntu 9.10.

Your system will reboot one more time and again you will have Windows 7 or Ubuntu to choose from.

When you select Ubuntu from the bootloader, it will go into the GRUB bootloader where you can select Ubuntu, Recovery Mode, or back to the Windows 7 Boot Manager.

At the Ubuntu login screen you’ll notice the username and password will be what you gave it in the steps above.

That’s really all there is to it…now you can easily boot into Ubuntu and get your geek on with this popular flavor of Linux.

Here is a look at the Kubuntu interface after a bit of tweaking…if you choose that route.

After Ubuntu has been completely installed, you can select the default boot system by going into Advance System Settings \ Startup and Recovery…then selecting between Windows or Ubuntu. To learn more about getting into this setting, check out The Geek’s article: Easily Set Default OS in a Windows7/Vista Dual Boot Setup.

Uninstall Ubuntu

So you’ve tried Ubuntu and decided you don’t like it, so now what do you do? It’s easy…just uninstall it. Boot into Windows 7 and go into Add / Remove Programs…

Or use a utility like Revo Uninstaller.

The uninstall process is extremely simple as well and consists of two screens. Verify you want to uninstall Ubuntu…

That’s it! It’s uninstalled and you have your hard drive space back. When you reboot your system, there’s no leftover funky GRUB or other bootloader to worry about. Your PC will boot directly into Windows.

Conclusion

This might be the easiest way for the Linux beginner to get their feet wet with Ubuntu as there are no partitions to create and installation is extremely simple. For this article we used Windows 7 but it should work on Windows 98 through Windows 7 …except for Windows ME…which no one should be running anyway. If you’re looking for an extremely easy way to start using Ubuntu Linux, you’ll definitely want to give the Wubi install a try.
